ABSTRACT

Three Diels-Alder type adducts, guangsangon E (1), chalcomoracin (2) and sorocein I (3) were isolated from hairy root cultures of Morus macroura. The structures of the isolated compounds (1 – 3) were determined by spectroscopic method (NMR and MS), and spectral comparison to literature. Cytotoxic activities of the isolated compounds (1 – 3) were investigated against P-388 murine leukemia cell line. Guangsangon E (1) showed the most potent cytotoxicity against P-388 murine leukemia cell line with IC₅₀ value of 2.75 ± 0.32 µg/mL. To the best of our knowledge, guangsangon E (1) and sorocein I (3) were reported for the first time from the tissue cultures of M. macroura.

ABSTRACT

Background: Foot complications are found to be a significant frequent, complication of Diabetes mellitus. Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii is gradually becoming dominant among Diabetes patients in urban population. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical relationship of these gram negative bacteria and their resistance mechanisms in patients with diabetic foot and infected ulcer in India. Methods: An observational study of 532 patients with infected ulcers in diabetic feet was conducted in Hycare for Wounds a tertiary care centre exclusively dedicated for Wound care and Management between May, 2017 and April, 2018. Processing and identification was done as per standard guidelines. The bacteriological assessment was performed in deep tissue cultures and amputation was considered major when performed above the foot’s middle tarsus. Results: Out of 532 patients studied 350 were positive for bacterial growth. Commonest   isolate was Pseudomonas aeruginosa followed by Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) species, Klebsiella and E. coli. We observed that 14 patients were infected with Acinetobacter baumannii and 50 % were carbapenamase producers. Clinical Outcomes: Out of 14 patients 6 were major amputees and 5 were minor amputees and the rest 3 patients are under medical management. Conclusion: Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii is a serious threat to Diabetic patients and can be considered as a risk factor for major amputation.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To establish the regeneration system of Saposhnikovia divaricate (Turcz.) Schisck. Methods: The effects of different explants, temperature, medium, and illumination was studied on the induction of S. divaricate. Response surface test design was used to optimize the hormone ratio of callus induction and proliferation. Results: The leaves of S. divaricate were used as the experimental materials, the optimal medium for the callus induction was MS + 6-BA 0.90 mg/L + 2,4-D 1.05 mg/L + KT 0.96 mg/L, with temperature of 25 ℃ and light of 12 h/d. The optimal medium for callus proliferation was MS + 6-BA 0.56 mg/L + 2,4-D 0.48 mg/L + KT 0.40 mg/L, and the subculture cycle was 35 d. The optimal medium for adventitious shoots was MS + NAA 0.6 mg/L + 6-BA 1.0 mg/L. The optimal medium for root growing was MS + NAA 0.4 mg/L + 6-BA 0.1 mg/L. Conclusion: S. divaricate callus was successfully induced and a stable and efficient plant regeneration system was established.
